From Buffalo to "Pure Heaven"
Friday, June 04 2010 03:02
Hi everyone. Greetings from unseasonably cold Buffalo, New York. This week (and this week only) I am subbing on the national tour of "Avenue Q" and we are at the Shea's Performing Arts Center all week.
Then immediately after that, from May 7th on, I'll be doing the bulk of the run of "Pure Heaven" at the Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck, New York. This show is a review, celebrating the club act of Kay Thompson. Find out more at www.emelin.org

The Tommy Igoe DVD is out...
Sunday, January 31 2010 07:53
And I'm on it! Be sure to check out Tommy's new DVD "Great Hands for a Lifetime." I had the honor of appearing on this project, representing a student of Tommy's who is now a professional musician. Tommy assembled a small group of his students, displaying varying levels of advancement. It's all hands, it's all practice pad and quite a workout.
Hey, speaking of Tommy, I will be subbing on performances of The Lion King for Tommy in the very near future.
Other than that, I've been just maintaining a very full schedule at Avenue Q.

Avenue Q Off-Broadway! ...and some Spamalot on the road
Sunday, September 27 2009 05:56
Hi everyone. Greetings from Tucson, Arizona. I'm very pleased to announce that I will be on drums for the new Off-Broadway production of Avenue Q. The fact that this production is even happening was a real exciting surprise to everyone involved...and now be offered the full-time gig is just fantastic. So I hope you will come check it out once it's up and running, which will be next month already. As for being in Tucson... I have been filling in on the national tour of Spamalot, with this being my third of three weeks with them. In the past two weeks, I also played San Diego and San Jose. It's been a real pleasure to play this music again and I've been having a great time working with the traveling musicians here. FYI, I will be returning to New York on Monday 9/28. Keep checking out my youtube page at: www.youtube.com/drummingjoe. New stuff will be posted very soon.

August Update
Thursday, August 20 2009 03:04
Hi everyone. Just a few updates for you. This coming week I will be on drums for the first three performances of a Fringe Festival show entitled Dancing With Abandon, happening at the Dixon Place Theatre. Following that, I will actually be heading out of town for three weeks to go sub on the national tour of Monty Python's Spamalot. This will take me to San Diego, San Jose, and Tucson. Should be a nice time.
Back here in New York, it's going to be tough for a while with shows closing. Most notable will be the closing of Avenue Q on September 13th. My friend Michael Croiter (the drummer there) has been kind enough to have me in to sub many, many times over the past two years. I am deeply grateful to Michael for the fantastic opportunity, and grateful to everyone there who has always made that pit such a warm, welcome, and fun place to work. I will definitely miss going to work at the "puppet show" (as we all call it).
Additionally, a lot of people were recently affected by the announcement that "9 to 5" will be coming to an untimely end. I was just about to start subbing there and had already learned most of the book. Just very unfortunate that the show didn't get to live longer. My friend Sean does a fantastic job there, playing one of the best Broadway drum books ever written.
That's it for now. Remember to keep up with me on youtube: www.youtube.com/drummingjoe

I have joined YouTube! (finally)
Sunday, June 07 2009 03:05
Yes, the time has finally come that have made the time to get some material up and running on YouTube. I will now be regularly posting examples of my performances along with free drum lessons. So please go have a look at www.youtube.com/drummingjoe and take a look at what I have so far.
Also, I have a good gig to see tomorrow night at Birdland. I will be backing up jazz/cabaret singer Natalie Douglas with a very eclectic set of music. Monday night at 7 PM.
Other than that, trying to stay busy with shows and teaching. I recently started subbing at "The Marvelous Wonderettes" and that has been fun so far.
Thanks for stopping by.
